Carmel-based diedfamous is organizing with artists across the globe to memorialize those lost to COVID19.
Developed in late 2018 with the goal to help the bereaved with art, diedfamous creates free portrait memorials for families mourning the loss of a loved one. Their creations offer more than just visual representations of lost loved ones -- they carry the message that coping with grief does not have to be a solitary endeavor.
Founder and contributing artist Michael Sinclair shares that this will to help people with art arose when he lost a friend unexpectedly in 2014. Unsure what else to do, he turned to his craft to create a memorial. By early 2018, he had created 5 more portraits the families of his friends, seeing the positive impact of each.
Sinclair wanted to do this for everyone, and started offering his services to anyone he thought might need it. To date, he’s created 22 memorial portraits for the cause.
Eventually, he sought out local artists to contribute. Unsurprisingly, he found them more than willing, as most shared the same experience of loss, and wanted to do something positive with their talents.
In the midst of the COVID Pandemic, diedfamous has begun reaching out to the artists of the internet to join in a unified effort of volunteered talents.
The response was unprecedented, with over 53 creators (and growing) offering their talents to provide families with a portrait to honor the loved ones they cherish. These artists all took the call to action out of compassion — because they want they want to share the sentiment:
“You are not alone in this. You were a witness to this life, you know it’s worth, and we’d like to honor that.”
